Al Rescues a Warbler

Last Saturday Al heard a thud at the sliding glass doors in the den. Knowing that it was probably a bird, he went to investigate. He spotted a dizzy, disoriented bird on the deck. As Al approached the bird, it became frightened and fluttered away toward the pool deck below and ended up tumbling into the water. Al quickly scooped her out and put her back on the deck in a safe spot to recover from her ordeal. He made pictures of the bird as she recovered. When he went back to check her later, she had flown away. We identified the bird as a female black and white warbler.

Hot and Hibiscus in Ohio!

It has been very hot the last few days and the perennial hibiscus are in full bloom! We have had temps in the hi 80's to low 90's and it has been very humid. We are enjoying the beautiful hibiscus - the highlight of our garden this month. What a show they and the Black Eyed Susans are putting on in this heat!

Memories from 40 Years Ago

40 years ago yesterday, I traveled to Europe and visited London, Paris, and Rome. I am working on making the slides that I took then into a DVD movie. I thought I would share just a few of those pictures with you in smilebox. This is the first in a 3 part series starting with London. Watch for more to come featuring Paris and Rome.

Queen of the Prairie

A couple years ago, we purchased a Queen of the Prairie at a plant sale held by the local garden club. It has become a fave in our July garden. It has very delicate pink blooms that sway in the summer breezes...it is easy to understand why it is a "Queen".

Lilies of July

Double Yellow Lily

Satisfaction Tree Lily---first Year....
Stargazer Lily
July has been a quick month. I have not been a very consistent blogger this month. We have been spending a lot of time outdoors on the deck and in the gardens. We have had some much needed rain this week and are having much lower temperatures than usual for July.

The highlight of our garden this month has been the lilies ...beautiful blooms all month. I wish we had smell-a-blog so you could share in the fragrance of the stargazer lilies. I brought some inside several days ago and the house is filled with the lovely fragrance.
